Passwords & storage

Bitwarden's free plan, set up in 15 minutes

A free password manager with no time limit.

Bitwarden is a password manager with a free plan that never expires. It stores unlimited passwords and syncs them across all your devices.

  1. Go to bitwarden.com and create a free account.
  2. Choose a master password. It's the one password you'll need to remember, so make it long. Four or five random words work well.
  3. Install the app on your phone and the browser extension on your computer.
  4. Start with the accounts that matter most: email, bank and phone carrier. Add the rest as you log in to them.
  5. Write your master password on paper and seal it in your binder.
Good to know

Emergency access, which lets a trusted person request your vault after a waiting period, is only on the paid Premium plan ($19.80 a year as of 2026). On the free plan, the sealed master password in your binder does the same job.
