Passwords & storage
Where do people actually store their passwords?
The honest answer, with pros and cons.
There's no single right answer. What matters is that one trusted person could get in if they had to.
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|
| Password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, Apple Passwords) | Lots of accounts, strong passwords, emergency access features | Someone still needs the one master password |
| Written password book | People who prefer paper; easy for family to use | Keep it locked away, and update it when passwords change |
| Saved in the browser | Convenience | Tied to one device and one login |
| Notes app or a document | Nothing, really | Easy to find, easy to lose, rarely encrypted |
Many people use a mix: a password manager for everyday logins, plus a sealed note in the binder with the master password and phone passcode.
